The completed gable end bracing accomplished using the steps outlined below should look like the light colored framing shown in the picture below.

The following actions are recommended to strengthen and properly brace a gable end wall.
In the attic go to the gable end and examine the area where the triangular wall meets the rectangular wall below.
Another way gable end frames are different from trusses placed in the interior of the structure is that frames experience perpendicular wind loads.
The gable end should be attached with studs on either side of the jack post.
Now you should brace your gable roof at the end using a temporary stud and install a jack post at a vertical angle running up from the beginning of the joist and connecting to the gable end rafters at the center where they meet.
The gable end frame is designed to transfer vertical loads from the roof to the continuous bearing wall below.
Brace the top of the gable end wall by tying it to the rafters or tops of the trusses.
Gable end walls need to be well connected to the wall below and to the roof structure or ceiling diaphragm.
